Why plant churches?

Because we believe God wants there to be local churches among unreached peoples. A local church is God's community in which people find ultimate fulfilment and spiritual destiny. It's the community through which he reveals himself to the world.

What does it take to plant a church?

There are three key processes:

  1. Explain the story of Jesus to people
  2. Walk with those who want to know more or who put their trust in Jesus
  3. Help those who respond to form a faith community that can be salt and light in their networks. WEC believes that cross-cultural ministry should be catalytic: our presence starts a reaction that leads to local movements of people into faith communities.

Where does WEC plant churches?

WEC has a ministry presence in more than 70 nations in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Central Asia, the South Pacific and Latin America. Some WEC Centres primarily facilitate the sending of cross-cultural workers from local churches, while others catalyse new churches among unreached people groups.

Does WEC do aid and development?

God has called WEC to plant churches among unreached people groups. WEC engages in some forms of aid and development, but only that which facilitates church planting.

What does WEC Hong Kong do?

WEC Hong Kong’s vision is to work together with the Hong Kong churches and the worldwide fellowship of WEC, to plant multiplying churches among the remaining unevangelized peoples of the world.  We actively assist local churches through missions training and in the preparation of their cross-cultural workers.

Does WEC work in teams?

Yes, there is a growing emphasis on teams throughout ministry in WEC.

Do you pray?

In all we do we need to see God's hand at work, and prayer is a key to our relationship with God. What we do is not complicated, but it is supernatural.

Who is WEC theologically?

WEC is an interdenominational group that holds to the tenets of an evangelical faith. Read our statement of faith.

Is there any time commitment?

There is no minimum or maximum time commitment. We can faciliitate your 'going' depending on how God is leading you, your church and WEC.

Is there any age limit?

You just need to be an adult. We see churches send out people of all ages, from 20 through to 70 years and over.

What are WEC's key requirements?

  • You and your church have a heart for sharing the message of Jesus, for walking with those who respond, and then for facilitating new faith communities among unreached people groups.
  • You are prepared to live among and learn from the world's most unreached peoples.
  • You have a church you call your spiritual home that is prepared to send you.
  • You are interested in growing in your walk with God and learning ministry skills.

What if I cannot go into a cross-cultural church planting ministry?

WEC has support roles in administration, media, IT and member care. However, if you sense God calling you in a direction other than cross-cultural church planting, then there are many groups who will be able to facilitate your ministry. We would be happy to introduce you to the ones we know of.

How much support will I have to raise?

WEC has no set goals. However, before you leave you need to have your tickets in hand, plus set up costs, six months living expenses and a good indication that people are getting behind you.

What percentage of my support do I get?

WEC Hong Kong takes no commission for channelling your finances to you. Some fields have pooling policies by which workers contribute a small proportion of financial support received to the costs of ministry.

Can I use my profession in this process?

Many people in WEC use their professional skills in cross-cultural ministry. Others lay down their professional skills and learn new skills that are more suited to their ministry context. The key is that your heart is set towards seeing God use you in his plans - whatever that takes.

What is WEC's finance policy?

There are three key aspects of WEC's approach to finance:

  1. We trust God to provide, mostly through his people but in other ways as well, for all our needs.
  2. We allow God rather than finance to direct our ministry, and this often calls for bold faith.
  3. We do not make finance a dominant feature of any single communication or ministry event unless there is a relational context. Our aim is to give rather than to receive.

What resources do we provide to church planters?

WEC is committed to training. We celebrate training through our residential training colleges and also through on-the-job training in sending churches, internships and mentoring. If you are a part of WEC, you are a learner.
